Australian manufacturers depend on reliable supplies of the materials and inputs required for production. Domestic production of those inputs helps sustain Australia’s manufacturing capacity, particularly when geopolitical uncertainty and global shipping disruptions affect international supply chains.

For the composites industry, allnex Australia maintains R&D, formulation and manufacturing capability at its Wacol site in Brisbane, the sole remaining manufacturer in Australia of resin and gelcoats for the ANZ market producing composite resins, gelcoats and flowcoats. The range includes AQUAGUARD®, POLYPLEX®, NUTECH®, ULTRATEC® and VIAPAL®, products that are used across construction, infrastructure, marine, pools and transportation. A national distribution network supports this capability by supplying materials to manufacturers across Australia.

The combination of technical expertise, R&D, local production and distribution enables close collaboration with industry. This provides a direct link between technical development, manufacturing requirements and the conditions in which composite materials are processed and used in Australia.

“Understanding how a material needs to perform in a particular application and environment is central to formulation. Having R&D and manufacturing capability in Australia provides a foundation for working closely with manufacturers to develop materials suited to local conditions and specific processing requirements,” said David Stevenson, Product Line Manager, Composites AO.

The Wacol operation brings together R&D, manufacturing, commercial and warehouse teams, while the national distribution network provides access to materials across the country. New packaging identifiers are also being introduced to make it easier to recognise products manufactured in Australia.

Together, these capabilities support domestic supply of manufactured inputs required by Australia’s composites industry and contribute to the resilience of the broader manufacturing sector.
