 About our host and presenter
Our host John van der Woude is the CEO and Founding Director of Penguin Composites and a Board member of Composites Australia. He grew up in the north-west Tasmanian town of Penguin where he started fibreglassing canoes and river running kayaks. John has grown the business from its beginnings as Canoe N Surf water sport through innovation, perseverance, reinvestment, a commitment to best technology, continuous improvement and the recruitment of key staff and business acquisition.

 Event overview
John provided delegates with an overview of the evolution and growth of the private company that has been operating on Tasmania’s north-west coast since 1976. From its beginnings as Canoe N Surf manufacturing canoes and kayaks, John will take us on the challenging journey that has seen the company build a diverse portfolio of composite products for Australian and global clients, constantly adapting to a changing environment and client requests.

The company has the capability to design and manufacture for one-off or volume component production, employing an average of 40 fulltime staff with skills in composite reinforced plastics, CAD design, welding, composite engineering and product development and recreation vehicle manufacturing.

Composites Australia thanks John and his team for their generosity in opening up their facility and sharing the company’s fascinating story.  You can read the company’s case study published in Connection  magazine here or visit the company website.

Following on from the event delegates enjoyed  dinner and continued networking at El Perro Tapas & Pizza in Penguin.
