This forum provides the rare opportunity to tour and learn about the operations of Airbus Helicopters Composites while also providing insight into a major piece of work to increase the use of advanced composites in Australia’s infrastructure projects.

This event will be hosted at the Airbus Helicopters Composites facility in Eagle Farm, Queensland.

Forum, tour and networking

This is an informal event for members and non member companies to come together to mark the end of a challenging year.

Giorgio Pesce, Director, Airbus Helicopters Composites will present on Airbus Helicopters Composites – Manufacturing of Advanced Fibre Composites for the Aerospace Industry. With leading-edge technology and a world-class manufacturing facility, Airbus Helicopters Composites specialises in the manufacture and repair of aeronautical composite structures. It manufactures composite components for global supply chains, including the Tiger, NH90, Super Puma and the ESSM Programs.  Giorgio will present an overview on the company, including its unique operations in composite component repairs for both civil and military aviation markets.

Expanding opportunities for advanced composites in infrastructure will be presented by Dr Rikard Heslehurst, engineering support and manager of the Special Interest Hub for Advanced Composites in Infrastructure. The Hub is a joint initiative of META and Composites Australia to further the development of standards and guidelines for bridge rehabilitation and construction using advanced composite technologies. Rik will outline his engagement with both industry and research organisations to collaborate on projects aimed at developing and sustaining the use of composite materials in infrastructure and thus aiding the composites manufacturing sector in Australia.

The tour will showcase the capabilities of Airbus Helicopters Composites as a state-of-the-art manufacturer of high grade aerospace composites and will take guests through each step of the advanced fibre composite manufacturing process including lay-up, autoclave curing, trimming, assembly and Non-Destructive Testing.
